40 years ago I was totally ignorant of thi...Shirl! <br />40 years ago I was totally ignorant of things medical and like my mother, believed doctors knew EVERYTHING that was best for me. Fortunately I now understand that my body and its health are my responsibility. I have become my doctor'd worst nightmare and question EVERYTHING! More than 40 years ago a specialist told me...Jenny<br /><br />More than 40 years ago a specialist told me I needed a thyroidectomy and I looked at him and said in loud capitals...NEVER!!!<br /><br />He put me on radioactive iodine tabs, told me I'd sign my death warrant if I touched alcohol, and never warned of possible side effects...of which there were some nasties.<br />Was I better off?<br />I still have my thyroid, no long term effects so I guess I am better off. My little bit of nursing training came in handy as I knew a person could turn into Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde without that endocrine gland. After reading this I'm very glad that for about the only time in my life I was assertive! Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
